Relative application of the DPI inequality to assess the direct interaction structure of a three node sub-network. Panel A depicts a three node subnetwork composed by nodes α, β and γ. Panels B, and C result from pruning (or not) the subnetwork from the link with the lowest MI ij , in this case MIα, β. The α- β link is removed only when its respective MI-value is lower than a predetermined threshold DPI _tol and left in the network otherwise.
